Does Truvada Interact with Other Drugs?

Before taking Truvada® (emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate), it is important to discuss all prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you are taking or plan to take with your healthcare provider.
  • Truvada should not be taken with Emtriva® (emtricitabine) or Viread® (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) since they are already part of Truvada.

  • Truvada should not be taken with drugs containing lamivudine (3TC), including Combivir®, Epivir®, Epivir-HBV®, Epzicom™ or Trizivir®, because lamivudine is too similar to Emtriva.

  • Your doctor may need to follow you more closely or adjust your therapy if you are taking Videx® (didanosine), Videx EC®, Reyataz® (atazanavir) or Kaletra® (lopinavir/ritonavir) in combination with Truvada.

  • It is not recommended that Truvada be used as a component of a triple nucleoside combination regimen.
Patients should read the Patient Information, including "What is the most important information I should know about Truvada?". It is important that you discuss your treatment options and any questions that you may have with your healthcare provider.
